Why was my contactless payment declined?

If you tried to pay by tapping your card and saw the message “Denied – Contactless Limit Exceeded,” don’t worry  your card is working fine.

Why it happens

For security reasons, card providers set a maximum amount you can spend using tap-to-pay without entering your PIN. If your purchase is higher than that limit, the transaction will be declined to keep your money safe.

What to do

  • Simply insert your card (or swipe, if available)

  • Enter your PIN to confirm the payment

  • Your transaction should then go through successfully

Good to know

  • This isn’t a card issue, it’s a built-in security feature.

  • Limits can vary depending on the card type and the country where you’re using it.

  • If you prefer, you can choose to insert your card for all purchases, regardless of the amount.
